Jerry Schroeder. I started writing poetry when I turned forty and have been deepening my love for it ever since. As a member of a Franciscan religious fraternity, I've served in the central cities of several large metropolitan areas in the Midwest. My poetry is informed by my religious faith, dear friendships and the privilege of working among the poor.

On Water

over the haunt of the deep
come the waves
of my story
without thought
of the wind

without sinking
into myself

out of sight
of the boat

when alone
and quiet
before the light changes
